A few tips onKeeping it Fresh!

Cherries

Store unwashed cherries in a plastic bag in the refrigerator, and wash just before eating. Remember that cherries with their stem still intact will last longer. Before eating fresh sweet cherries, leave them out on the counter for a few hours as the flavor is much better at room temperature. Fresh cherries should be consumed within two to four days.

If you can’t use all your cherries in two to four days, try freezing them. Wash and dry cherries leaving the stems intact. Place in freezer bag, remove as much air as possible. When you are ready to use them, thaw them in the refrigerator.

Apples

In general, store apples in a cool, dark place. If you are lacking a cold cellar, place the apples in a plastic bag and store in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator.

Walnuts

Keep your shelled walnuts protected from air and heat. Put them in an airtight canister and try keeping them in the refrigerator, or better yet put them in the freezer.  Keep in mind that it’s easier to find some space for a bag because it’s more flexible than a canister in your freezer. Then when they freeze they won’t stick together. You can simply reach into the bag and take them out as needed. And toast or eat them and serve them.

Shelled walnuts will stay fresh approximately 2-4 weeks in the pantry, 6 months in the refrigerator and up to a year in the freezer.
